My Megalomaniacs by Jamie Smart books arrived yesterday!!!! I ordered three copies because, honestly, I wanted 1 to keep (so nuur) and planned to use the other 2 for giveaways.
So, if you’re into Jamie Smart already, or you’re always on the lookout for a new graphic novel to tempt young readers, I’ve got the two copies ready to give away: one via Facebook and one via Instagram. Details are below, along with a first look at the book.
First look at Megalomaniacs
The photo of the cover doesn’t do it justice but it looks absolutely mint. It’s full of energy and chaos and the more you look the more you discover. It’s loud in all the right ways, and the inside pages are packed with cool character designs, busy panels, lots for kids to spot and laugh at.
I’ll share a full review once I’ve had time to read it properly, but on a quick flick-through it looks like a very natural next step for fans of Bunny vs Monkey, same daft humour, similar storyline whereby some naughty so-n-so wants to take over earth but different setting and cast, still very much “Jamie Smart” in the best sense.
Who I think this will suit
From what I’ve seen so far, Megalomaniacs looks like a good fit for:
- Kids who already love Bunny vs Monkey or other Jamie Smart books.
- Young readers who like busy, funny pages rather than huge blocks of text.
- Parents and teachers trying to hook comic-curious kids with something properly fun and easy to digest.
- Anyone who enjoys slightly unhinged, big-hearted graphic novels.
If that sounds like your house, classroom or library, this is one to put on the radar.

- Comment with your favourite Jamie Smart book, or tag who you’d gift a copy to.

When it closes & picking winners
It’s UK only and closes at 11:59pm (UK time) on Sunday 29th March. I’ll pick one winner from the Facebook comments and one from the Instagram comments and contact them directly within a few days of the closing date.
Why I’m doing this on Stoomio
Stoomio is slowly becoming a little home for news and reviews about kids’ graphic novels and children’s books that actually ‘should’ get read. Jamie Smart’s work fits that mission perfectly: bold, silly, and very good at turning “I don’t like reading” into “can I have the next one?”
Giving away a couple of copies is my small way to say cheers to the people who read, comment and recommend things back.
