3 words to describe this book… Horror / Humour / WASPS!

Horror – If the cover isn’t chilling enough with that eerie dark forest and creepy eyes, what’s inside is much worse. I promise.

Humour – The humour in this book is thoughtfully peppered throughout just so that it dilutes the horror… slightly. Well, enough to stop you wetting your pants.

WASPS! – If you weren’t a fan of wasps to begin with then this book certainly won’t help. Sorry.

Another word to describe this book, and perhaps the most important, is ‘friendship’. Main character Lance, a quick witted gamer, has many of the issues you’d expect with being in his final year at school as well as some personal issues because of, you know… reasons! 😉 But it’s the friendships and learning the importance of them that keep him going.

Lance and his best friends Chets, Big Mak, and Katja embark on what is to be an adventure they will never forget. And you just know things aren’t going to go down well when the first thing you see arriving at your destination is a blood stained stranger telling you to leave or…

They will get you!

The year 6 class head to Crater Lake in spite of their warning to find it oddly understaffed and are served SOUP, yes SOUP for lunch… or at least they think it’s soup. And this is just the beginning of the downward spiral of unfortunate events which they must find a way through. Their survival depends on it.

Don’t worry though, as I mention earlier that although this book is super scary, it is also a brain churning mystery with just enough funny bits to make you chuckle and forget about wetting your pants. But only for a second. (It’s probably wise to have an extra pair of pants nearby, just in-case.)

Anyway, Jennifer Killick as well as being funny, hints at (possible?) fandom with some fun references to Batman, Harry Potter, Goosebumps and Thor (see if you can spot them) in the book too which some of you will no doubt like. And I totally think ‘Geek, Robot, Overlord’ should be a thing!

So strap in for this one folks! And remember, DON’T. EVER. FALL. ASLEEP.
