Sock Stealers, Snack Snafflers, Parent Punishers, Wardrobe Lurkers and Poo Shufflers! This is but a handful of the villainous creatures that lurk within! Some are harmless, the others… not so much. And it’s up to Grace and sister Danni to send them back from whence they came!

The story follows 10-year-old Grace and older sister Danni who have been looking after the family bakery ‘Cake Hunters’ ever since their parents mysteriously disappeared 2 years ago. But this isn’t just any bakery… no no… it’s all a front. Grace and Danni actually come from a long line of monster hunters! And not only do they make the tastiest treats in town (so I hear) but each delectable dessert has special properties designed to take down different species of monsters.

But some monsters are stronger than others of course and won’t be taken down so easily. Grace learns this when she comes across a really grumpy and unusually intelligent for its species – a cyclops named Mr Harris (Weird name for a monster right.) with a weakness for delicious doughnuts.

Grace learns of Mr Harris’s whereabouts and goes to take him down but finds out that he has information on her missing parents! Grace must gain his trust and find out all she can from him so she can rescue her parents from an extraordinary location.

OMG I loved this book! Author Gianna Pollero CLEARLY has a sweet tooth! She puts so much detail into describing all the tasty treats… it honestly left me hungry. But no way could I put this book down to grab a snack even though I wanted to, I devoured this book in one sitting. I challenge anyone to put this book down once you begin reading, it’s so intense, gripping, action packed and funny.

And let’s just talk about some of the fantastic characters…

Grace is just amazing and definitely someone you want on your side, she is brave, courageous, smart and just won’t quit. I absolutely love Grace.

Mr Harris he is dangerous, dastardly, defiant and a heap of fun. He has such a cheeky personality with a hint of death – what’s not to love.

Frank is great. He is small, shy and doesn’t go anywhere without his little golden fork for protection. But he shows his confidence when needed and really steps up to help his friends. Did I mention he was raised by goblins?

Monster Doughnuts is a family favourite in the making and is marvelously illustrated by Sarah Horne. 7+ readers will thoroughly enjoy this as will parents who get to read it to their kids. I simply cannot wait for book 2 – ‘Monster Doughnuts: Cyclops On A Mission’

And remember the name Gianna Pollero, an up and coming author with a heap of talent and passion. For more background on Gianna she was kind enough to do an interview right here on the Stoomio website which I’d love for you to read here.
