Conker the Chameleon by Hannah Peckham

Conker the Chameleon by Hannah Peckham is one of my favourite picture books. My kids love it too. Not only is the story so touching but the illustrations by Stephanie Jayne are just incredible.

Can you imagine what it would be like if you could tell how someone was feeling just by looking at them?

But sometimes, looks can be deceiving…

In a world where chameleons have lost the words to explain how they are feeling, they have all got in a bit of a muddle! Poor old Conker, who can’t change his colour like the others, is feeling very fed up.

Then he discovers that what makes him different also makes him special.

This heart-warming story by Hannah Peckham will delight and engage young children while encouraging them to talk openly about their feelings.

We love Chameleons in our house so me and my daughter got really excited to read all about Conker the Chameleon. (Such a good name for a chameleon! Not as good as Frank but still….)

Inspired by the gentle rhyme
In which the book is penned.
I shall attempt to review in poem form
Introducing Conker, your new best friend.

Conker is a Chameleon
But not like all the others
For he can’t change his colours!
And be like all his brothers.

Changing colours is how chameleons
Communicate and show their feelings!
Conker becomes sad
And needs emotional healing.

But this “determined little chap”
Has a wonderful and clever plan.
To share his feelings by talking
Helping everyone he can.

Conker the Chameleon is a wonderful book
About sharing how you feel
Hannah Peckham has written a future classic
The real deal.

And how about those amazing illustrations!
By the talented Stephanie Jayne
I think you’ll agree they’re stunning
They’re seared into my brain.

Both parents and young children
Will adore Conker, of this I have no doubt
I want a TV adaption!
It would be totally far-out.

I hope you like the rhyme I used
To write this book review.
So #BeMoreConker and remember
What makes you different, makes you special too.

BUY Conker the Chameleon and let me know what you think in the comments below. I also had the wonderful chance to interview Hannah right here on Stoomio which you can read here!
