I’m pretty sure I’m not alone here but there’s one thing that gets me more excited than a box of fresh doughnuts, it’s a fantastically bonkers series of books where doughnuts play a starring role. Enter the world of Monster Doughnuts by the utterly brilliant Gianna Pollero—an author whose imagination is as wild as her taste for sweet treats. Over the course of three books, Gianna takes us on a whirlwind adventure filled with mischievous monsters, heroic monster-hunters, and enough cake to make your stomach rumble.
Buckle up, because this trilogy is a ride you won’t want to miss. And if you haven’t yet devoured my reviews of each book, don’t worry—I’ve got you covered with a rundown that’s sure to leave you craving more.
Book 1: Monster Doughnuts – The Start of Something Sweet (And Monstrous!)
Villains, Doughnuts, and a Mystery to Solve
From the very first page of Monster Doughnuts, we’re plunged into the action with ten-year-old Grace and her sister, Danni, who are more than just bakers at their family shop, Cake Hunters. The shop is a front for their real job—taking down monsters using their cleverly concocted pastries. And let me tell you, these aren’t your ordinary doughnuts. They’re baked with a purpose: to send Sock Stealers, Wardrobe Lurkers, and other ghastly creatures back to where they belong!
But when a grumpy, doughnut-loving cyclops named Mr Harris enters the scene, things get tricky. Grace and Danni’s monster-hunting skills are put to the ultimate test, especially when they discover that Mr Harris might hold the key to finding their missing parents. This book is a whirlwind of action, humour, and sugary delights that you simply won’t be able to put down.

Book 2: Monster Doughnuts: Cyclops on a Mission – Mr Harris is Back, and He’s Hungrier Than Ever!
Monsters, Mischief, and a Cyclops with a Sweet Tooth
Just when you thought the adventures of Grace and Mr Harris couldn’t get any more intense, Cyclops on a Mission comes along to prove you wrong. In this sequel, our favourite doughnut-munching cyclops has turned over a new leaf—or at least he’s trying to. Now working for the Secret Service alongside Grace, Mr Harris is supposed to help round up those pesky monsters… if only he could stop eating them (and the cakes) first!
This book is packed with even more monstrous mayhem, including a particularly nasty creature called the Bottom Biter. The dynamic between Grace and Mr Harris is at its peak here, with Grace’s no-nonsense attitude clashing hilariously with Mr Harris’s laid-back (and snack-obsessed) approach. The stakes are higher, the monsters are nastier, and the cakes are… well, let’s just say you’ll want to keep some treats nearby while reading this one.

Book 3: Monster Doughnuts: Beastly Breakout – A Prison Break, a Cyclops, and a Whole Lot of Chaos
Monsters on the Loose, and Only Grace Can Stop Them
By the time you reach Beastly Breakout, you’ll be fully invested in the wild, wacky world of Monster Doughnuts—and this book does not disappoint. Grace is back, and this time she’s facing her biggest challenge yet: a horde of monsters has escaped from Monster World Prison, and it’s up to her and Mr Harris to capture them before they cause too much havoc.
This book is an absolute riot. The stakes are higher than ever, and the action is non-stop as Grace and Mr Harris dive headfirst into Monster World itself. The escapades are as hilarious as they are heart-pounding, with Mr Harris once again proving to be both a help and a hindrance in equal measure. The book’s fast pace and short chapters make it a perfect read for young adventurers and a blast for parents reading along. And the ending? Let’s just say it’s explosive—literally!

Final Thoughts: A Deliciously Fun Trilogy
The Monster Doughnuts trilogy is the perfect concoction of humour, adventure, and just the right amount of danger to keep readers young and old hooked from start to finish. Gianna Pollero has crafted a world that’s as enchanting as it is deliciously dangerous, with characters you’ll love and laugh with long after the final page.
Whether you’re new to the series or a seasoned fan, this trilogy is a must-read for anyone who loves a bit of monster mayhem with their sweet treats. And trust me, after spending time with Grace, Mr Harris, and the rest of the crew, you’ll never look at a doughnut the same way again!
Happy reading, and may your Monster Doughnuts reading experience be accompanied by treats!
